About this course

Moving off VMware is as much a planning exercise as a technical one. This workshop gives you a repeatable migration playbook: inventory your estate, map networking and storage, import workloads with qm importovf, and decommission the old platform cleanly.

You practice on a lab environment and finish with a working import of a real Linux VM, plus checklists you can reuse for your own estate.

    Assessing the estate, choosing a wave plan and managing risk.

  2. Networking & storage mapping 1.5h

    Translating vSwitch and datastore designs to Proxmox equivalents.

  3. Importing VMs with qm importovf 2h

    OVF/OVA export and import, disk conversion and post-import fixes.

  4. ESXi guest agent to QEMU guest agent 1h

    Replacing VMware Tools and enabling QEMU guest agent.

  5. Licensing, sizing & decommissioning 1h

    Subscription planning, right-sizing hosts and retiring VMware cleanly.

  6. Migration lab: bring your own VM 1.5h

    Hands-on import of a sample Linux and Windows workload.
